8 Tips for a More Enjoyable Work Experience in the Office
The conditions for you to work happily and willingly in the office environment are not solely dependent on you, of course. Company officials also need to pay attention to elements such as office decoration, working and resting hours, honoring and rewarding systems, and salary policies to motivate employees. On the other hand, there are individual things you can do to enjoy working in the office. By paying attention to these, you can spend happier hours in your working environment.
1. Pay Attention to Getting Enough Sleep
The ideal sleep duration varies according to a person's age, lifestyle, and constitution, but it is generally recommended to be between 6 – 8 hours. You should determine the duration that sufficiently rests you. If this duration is less or more than normal, we recommend consulting a doctor. You must organize your life in a way that allows you to wake up refreshed in the mornings; otherwise, you may not be as productive as needed throughout the day.
2. Identify Your Unproductive Time Slots
Everyone may have times during the day when they work better and faster or when their productivity drops. Identify the hours of the day when your productivity is low and do easier, quicker tasks during those times. Save the more challenging tasks for the hours when you feel smarter and more dynamic.
3. Don’t Neglect Breakfast
Studies show that people who start their day with a good breakfast are more positive and energetic throughout the day. You may not be very hungry or skipping breakfast may not make you feel bad, but we recommend starting your day with at least a small amount of healthy breakfast foods. Experiencing hunger pangs during the day, getting overly angry about events, and becoming stressed can be the result of skipping this important meal.
4. Have Lunch with Friends, Talking About Nice Things
The lunch break is for resting and ensuring productive work for the remainder of the day, so act accordingly. Lunch breaks spent with one or more friends, discussing enjoyable things about life or vacation plans without talking about work, can disperse the negative energy and allow you to return to work more cheerfully and relaxed after the meal.
5. Leave Stuck Topics to Address Later if Possible
Getting stuck while trying to solve a problem and being unable to progress in your thoughts is something that can happen to anyone. In such cases, if possible, postpone that task. You may find the solution while walking, just before sleeping, or after waking up from a good sleep, even if you have been racking your brain.
6. Beautify Your Working Environment
You can make your day more enjoyable by adding small touches to the office you work in or at least your desk and its immediate surroundings. If you are working with a few people, you should also consider the opinions of other employees. However, even if you cannot reach a consensus with them, you can add energy to your desk with flowers, an original and stylish pen holder, and a few decorative accessories. If your desk is small, you should not put too many items on it, as this makes it look cluttered and distracts you.
7. Do Desk Exercises
Many office workers complain of back, neck, and lower back pain. These complaints, which are a natural result of working for hours at a desk in the same position, can turn into serious health issues over time. To prevent this, do light exercises at your desk and take short walks during lunch hours. Occasionally walking around the office or climbing a few flights of stairs can also help. It is also important that your chair is comfortable. If necessary, support your back with a cushion.
8. Participate in Social Activities with Your Colleagues
A life of commuting from home to work and back can make a person lose interest in both work and life. Join social activities organized by your colleagues that will brighten the day or invite them to such activities. Having coffee together, going to the movies, or shopping at appropriate times strengthens your bonds and helps you feel more active and good. Also, strive to be social outside of work and do not weaken your relationships with your loved ones and friends.
