How to recruit a nanny

When it comes to choosing the suitable nanny, there is no such thing as asking a lot of questions. It is really important that you feel it is the right ‘match’ with the nanny and you give yourself time to think and find out as much about her as you can. Down below are a few examples of what you may want to think about asking and talking at meeting stage:

 

Talk about working hours and any extra hours you may require such as weekends, babysitting, if live-in, then also holidays with the family etc.

Discuss any special dietary and medical necessities.

If the nanny is going to travel with you, talk any responsibilities that may change during this period.

What activities does she likes to doing with the kids?

How will she plan her day?

What can she teach your kids about money?

Is she creative and does she like to do arts & crafts?

Does she enjoy taking the children to social activities e.g. swimming, walking, going to cinema, visiting library, music classes etc.?

How would she set up a routine?

What are her point of view on discipline the child?

Is she happy to build up a social life for the kid and meet with the other nannies for dinner, tea, playing groups and social activities?

Is she a good driver?

How would she react in an emergency situtaion, such as injury, allergic reaction, choking, etc.

What are her hobbies?

How does she like to spend her off day?

Talk about your house rules.
